Advisor: Mohammad Halili, M.Lang,St. This study to investigate the type and function of deictic word used in short story by William Shakespeare: Desolation of stories. This methodology of study used Miles and Huberman (1994) theory.This study was conducted by using descriptive design. The writer choosed the short story by William Shakespeare Desolation of Short Stoy as the data and the data is the conversation and the context of the short story. The data was analyzed and classified based on the type of deictic word and function deictic proposed by William Shakespeare (2006). This study used content-analysis method as the method of data collection. This study used interactive data analysis model as the method of analyzing data. In this study, the writer found three type of deixis word are; person deixis,spatial deixis, and temporal deixis word. The writer found 21 data, from 21 data collected, 12 data belong to repetition, 3 data found belong to the first person, 2 data found belong to second person, and7 data found belong to the third person deixis, the writer found 2 data belong tospatial deixis and 3 data found on temporal deixis. Furthermore, the functions of deixis which have found in this study has six those are; referential deixis, emotive dixis, conative deixis, metalingual deixis, fatis deixis, and poitic deixis. On referential deixis the writer found (1data), on emotive deixis fuond (1 data), on conative deixis found (1 data), on metalingual deixis found (1 data) on fatis deixis found (1 data) and on poitic deixis the writer found (1 data).
