Abstraksi : Growing Up Dead di Texas adalah novel karya Stephen Graham Jones . Novel ini menarik karena menggambarkan kehidupan petani kapas Indian di Greenwood , Texas . Novel ini menceritakan tentang kebakaran di ladang kapas di Greenwood pada tahun 1985 . Api menyebabkan banyak masalah di antara penduduk dan mengakibatkan tergusurnya komunitas mereka . Karena novel ini mewakili masa lalu penulisnya sehingga novel ini akan dianalisis melalui teori postmodern dengan fokus pada tema sastra postmodern , runtutan kejadian setelah kebakaran yang mengarah ke penggusuran , dan percampuran fakta dan fiksi dalam novel . Studi ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman singkat tentang teori postmodern dan dampaknya terhadap karya sastra . Penelitian ini termasuk ke dalam penelitian kualitatif . Hal ini karena ( 1 ) data akan diinterpretasikan , (2 ) data dan analisis akan disajikan dalam bentuk kata , (3 ) instrumen kunci adalah penulis sendiri . Data adalah ucapan dan narasi dari karakter dan penulis dalam novel . Data yang akan dikumpulkan dan dikodekan kemudian dianalisis . Metode analisis data dibagi menjadi empat proses , ada pengumpulan data , reduksi data, display data, dan verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan pernyataan masalah dalam penelitian ini . Penulis menemukan dua tema umum sastra postmodern dalam novel ini , ada irony; playfulness; black humour dan metafiction . Urutan peristiwa yang menyebabkan pembuangan Indian di Greenwood dibagi menjadi tiga urutan utama , yang pertama adalah prasangka di antara penduduk , yang kedua adalah teror yang terkait dengan api ( perkelahian , penembakan bus sekolah , penculikan , pembunuhan ) , dan yang ketiga adalah pembuangan komunitas India di Greenwood , Texas . Hasil terakhir dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa keseluruhan cerita di mana fakta-fakta dan fiksi berbaur disimpulkan sebagai simulacra. Kata kunci : postmodern , tema , dampak , Pembuangan .

ABSTRACT: Growing Up Dead in Texas is a novel by Stephen Graham Jones. This novel is interesting because it depicts the life of Indian cotton farmer in Greenwood, Texas. It novel is concerned about the fire that burns out the whole cotton field in Greenwood in 1985. The fire causes many problems among the dwellers and leads to the banishment of their community. Since this novel represents the past of the author so this novel is going to be analyzed through postmodern theory concerning to the themes of postmodern literature, the sequences of event after the fire that leads to the banishment, and the mingling opf facts and fictions in the novel. After all, study is aimed to give a brief understanding about postmodern theory and its impact to literary work. This study is included into qualitative research. It is because (1) the data will be interpreted; (2) the data and the analysis will be presented in the form of word; (3) the key instrument is the writer herself. The data are the utterance and narration of the characters and the author in the novel. The data will be collected and coded then be analyzed. The method of analyzing data are devided into four processes, there are data collection, reduction, data display, and verification. The result of the study reveals the statement of the problem in this research. The writer finds two common themes of postmodern literature in this novel, there are irony; playfulness; black humour; and metafiction. The sequences of event that lead to Indian banishment in Greenwoodfire are divided into three main sequences of event, the first is the prejudice among the dwellers, the second is the terrors that related to the fire (the fights, the shooting of the school bus, the abduction, the murders), and the third is the banishment of Indian community in Greenwood, Texas. The last result of the research is that the whole story where the facts and fictions mingling is concluded as the simulacra. Keywords: Postmodern, Themes, Impact, Banishment.
