    Abstraction

    Abstract: This study is intended to analyze the phenomena of hegemony that is done by the employer named Asher and the scientist named Dr. Jonathan.Therefore, this study is focused on the dialogues and author’s narration that depict the phenomena of hegemony in Dr. Jonathan play by Winston Churchill. This study uses hegemony theory that is formulated by Antonio Gramsci, capitalism theory, and democracy theory. Futhermore, to conduct this study, the qualitative research is used to analyze the data. After analyzing the play, it can be concluded that there are three kinds of hegemony that are reflected in the play entitled Dr. Jonathan. Asher’s domination uses cultural hegemony and violence hegemony to dominate his employees, while Dr. Jonathan’s domination uses his intellectual to dominate George and Asher Pindar. Then, there are the effects that appear due to hegemony that is done by Asher Pindar, named economic affair, lose the job, and death, and also there are some efforts that appear to resist hegemony named joining union and labor strikes that are reflected in the play entitled Dr. Jonathan.
