This study was intended to explain three kinds of irony and metaphor that reflect to Indian social condition and their caste in Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger. The analysis was discussed by New Criticism approach which focuses on figurative language, especially in terms irony and metaphor. Therefore, this study focus on author’s narration and character’s utterances relate to kinds of irony and metaphor that reflect to the social condition in the novel. Moreover, to get clear analysis, this study used qualitative research design in analyzing the data that is conducted through some steps. They were compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting the data, and concluding analysis. Consequently, the writer was the key instrument and the data were described in the form of words or interpretation to answer the research problem. Thus, the data collection was done simultaneously with the data analysis. After analyzing the data, it can be concluded that there are three kinds of irony which are found in the novel, such as verbal irony, dramatic irony, and situational irony. These three kinds of irony reflect the differences of social condition between high class and low class people in India. Furthermore, the metaphors such as half baked, light and darkness, country mouse, greedy pig explain how the social condition of low class people in Laxmangarh that uneducated, unemployed, and unhealthy.
