Advisor: Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono Love of A Mother in Little Women By Louisa May Alcott This study concerns psychology and literature, especially on the psychology of love theory by Erich Fromm. Psychology of love theory is about the love that human gives to the others. This study applies this theory through the mother’s love to her children in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. That novel portrays how Mrs. March as a mother gives her love to her children, and the influences that appear in the children’s life due to mother’s love, namely spirit of life, independence, philantrophy, and creativity. This study is intended to answer two formulated research problems, namely (1) how mother’s love that is reflected in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. (2) how does the love influence the children that is reflected in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Therefore, this study is focused on the dialogues and the author’s narration that reflect Mrs. March’s love for her children with sincere. Furthermore, this study applies qualitative research method to analyze the data. After analyzing the data, it can be concluded that there are four the way of love that given by mother: (1) Giving motivation, (2) Care giving, (3) Giving education, and (4) Worrying that is given by mother to her children that is reflected when Mrs. March makes her children smiled and peaceful in their life. Then, Mrs. March’s love can arouse spirit of life. Besides, that love which is given by Mrs. March can give some influences to her children. The affection from mother can influences the children to be independent, philanthropic, and creative child. Keywords: independent, philanthropic, creativity, and love.
