This study analyzes the kinds of jargon which are used by Areko Community in Kangean Island, and the factors that contribute to the existence of jargon of Areko Community in Kangean Island. The data are analyzed and classified based on types of jargon which is proposed by Halligan (2004) and factors that contribute to the existence of jargon by Chaer and Leonia (2004). The objectives of this study are to explain the jargons used by Areko Community in Kangean Island and to explain the factors that contribute to the existance of jargons of the Areko Community in Kangean Island.This study uses descriptive qualitative design. The sources of data are the members of Areko community, while the data are the utterances of the Areko community members which contain jargon. The method which is used to collect the data is participant observation method. The method which is used to analyze the data is the extralingual correlation method. The findings of this study show that there are two kinds of jargon which are used by Areko and there are two factors that contribute the existence of Jargon of Areko Community in Kangean Island. The two kinds of Jargon in this study are: Word and Phrase. 47 jargons belong to words and 2 jargons belong to phrase. The two factors that contribute the existence of Jargon of Areko Community in Kangean Island are the habit and the identity. 28 jargons belong to the habit and 21 jargons belong to the identity.
