    ABSTRACT Hafifah. 100511100028. The Impact of the Gaps Between Upper Class and Lower Class in Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger Thesis. English Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisors: (I) Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono, (II) Imron Wakhid H., S.S., M.pd. Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger obtains the Man Booker prize in 2008. The novel is a fiction that has correlation with India because it is built on the reality of Indian society. This study is aimed to give further understanding about the literary theories, especially Marxism. Since this novel exposes the dark side in India namely the gaps between upper class and lower class also the class conflict that happen between two classes so this novel is analyzed through Marxism approach. How are the gaps between upper class and lower class and what is the impact of the gaps are the two questions to analyze the novel entitled The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. By using Marxism approach this study is expected to provide a critical analysis of the novel. The utterances and the narrations which told in the novel is the answer of these questions. By utilizing the descriptive research, the information is analyzed based on the data that existing in the source of data. The results of this study are following of some element of the gaps between upper class and lower class. It makes a bad relation and brings the conflict between two classes. The class conflict covering the oppression and exploitation, at last the class conflict that occurs makes the death effect to one of the upper class. It is represented by Balram who kill his master, Mr. Ashok. Key woards: Marxism, Gap, Class Conflict.
