Thesis, English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. First Advisor: Diah Ikawati Ayuningtias, S.S, M.Pd. Second advisor: Iqbal Nurul Azhar, S.S, M. Hum. This study aims to investigate the types of turn-taking irregularities conducted by male and female guests on ‘’The Ellen Degeneres Show’’. This study also analyzes the reasons of turn-taking irregularities conducted by male and female guests on ‘’The Ellen Degeneres Show’’. This study uses Wardhaugh and Cook’s theory to analyze the types and reasons of turn-taking irregularities on the show. This study uses descriptive qualitative design. The sources of data is eight episodes of ‘’The Ellen Degeneres Show’’, they consist of four males and four females guests. The data are the guests’s utterances containing turn-taking irregularities. The main instrument in collecting, classifying, and analyzing the data is the writer himself. The method to collect the data is content analysis. Besides, the method to analyze the data is interractive model analysis. The findings of this study indicate that turn-taking irregularities which occurs on ‘’The Ellen Degeneres Show’’, is interruption and overlap. Based on Wardhaugh and Cook’s theory, it is found that the guests do interruption and overlap because they have certain reasons, such as clarification, asking for help, rejection, correction, completion, and showing annoyance.
