Asher Pindar’s Characterization in W. Churchill’s Dr. Jonathan: A Transactional Analysis This study focuses on analyzing the characterization of Asher Pindar by using transactional analysis theory of Eric Berne. In a person, there are three different kinds of personality that have different structure and function. They are child ego, parent ego and adult ego. This three sub personalities are called as ego states. Ego state relates to human recognition which is called by stroke. This study is aimed to describe the Asher Pindar’s ego state and stroke which appear in W. Churchill’s Dr. Jonathan and to explain the effects of Asher Pindar’s ego state to the flow of the story. Transactional analysis theory from Canadian/ American psychiatrist is used in this study in order to analyze the Asher Pindar’s characterization in W. Churchill’s Dr. Jonathan. Furthermore, to clarify the characterization of Asher Pindar itself, this study uses a qualitative research as a method to collect, select, code, and analyze the data. Through this method, it is found that Asher Pindar’s ego state that he uses to his son and his employee is dominated by child ego state which mostly egoism and just keep of his conviction. It is influenced by his life style, activities and social status that he gets from his childhood. This egoism becomes the result of Asher Pindar’s ego state that naturally have. He makes many difficulties for anyone. However, in the end of the story, Asher Pindar becomes wise for everything that he faces, especially when he accepts union worker after his son gets sick. Therefore, the employee’s request to build union worker can be reached. Keyword: Transactional Analysis, Ego State, Stroke
