    Harori, Achmad. (09.05.1.1.1.00062). “The Restlessness of Danielle Steel Toward Social Condition As Seen in The Novel Message from Nam by Danielle Steel As in Reality”. Thesis. English Study Programe of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisors: Diva Wenanda, S.S, M.Pd. This study analyzes one of Danielle Steel’s works entitled Message from Nam. The novel describes about the social climate of America in 1960s and Viet Nam War. The aims of this study are to answer: (1) What is the expression of Danielle Steel that appear in the novel Message from Nam? (2) How is the social condition of America in 1950s-1960s reflected on the novel Message from Nam? This study aims at observing the author’s expression. Therefore, the study applies M.H Abrams’s orientation on expressive criticism. The result of the study shows that the expression of the author is restlessness toward social condition at that time. In line with the features of qualitative research, the data collection is done simultaneously with the data analysis. There are three related processes in the data analysis that is done together; reducing data, displaying data and making conclusion. After analyze the novel Message From Nam by using expressive criticism, it can be concluded that Danielle Steel throughout Message From Nam she reveals her restlessness toward social condition of America in the past, present and future.
