English Study Program of Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono. This study, entitled The Social Condition of Lower Class People in America in “Children of the Working Class” by John Wieners describes about the social condition of lower class people in America who become patients in the asylum named Taunton State Hospital at 1972. The social condition in this poem is analyzed by using Karl Marx theory about class system. This topic is chosen since America is famous with its class system era and human segregation that give a miserable life for the lower class people. Moreover, to get clear analysis, this study uses qualitative research design in analyzing the data. The writer is the key instrument and the data are described in the form of words. The data of this study are the dictions and symbolisms of “Children of the Working Class”. From the results of this study, it can be found that the social condition of lower class people in America is very miserable at that time. This study concludes that the lower class people in America are typified by poverty, suffer from lack of medical care, adequate housing and food, decent clothing, safety, and vocational training, welfare mothers who abuse the system by having more and more babies, those minimally educated people who engage in “manual labor” with little or no prestige, and their jobs are usually more physically taxing, and in some cases quite dangerous.
