Abstract: This study focuses on segregation experienced by The Invisible Man in Ralph Ellison’s novel, entitled Invisible Man. Hence, the theory of Racism and the concept of segregation are used by the researcher to analyze this novel. Furthermore, this study uses qualitative design. The writer involves herself in collecting and analyzing the data. The data of this study are taken from the author’s narration and also the characters’ utterances. The result of this study reveals that the Invisible Man experiences segregation in the case of housing, education, and occupation. Moreover, although he experiences the segregation which is done by the white Americans, he does not give up. The Invisible Man who is segregated from the South to the New York realizes that during his segregation in New York, he will live his life hardly. But then, the Invisible Man who does not want give up, he tries to look for ways in order to he can survive as long as he is in New York, the strange place the Invisible man lives. The Invisible Man wants to prove to the people who have removed the Invisible Man from the South that although the Invisible Man is segregated to the New York, the Invisible Man can be a successful man.
