This study aims to explain the characteristics of cant produced by beggars at Sunan Giri’s graveyard Gersik and the factors which influence the use of cant by beggars at Sunan Giri’s graveyard Gersik. In addition to analyze the data, this study uses cant theory. Moreover, this study is conducted using a qualitative design because the data are in the form of sentences. The data of this study are the utterances by beggars when they ask money to the visitor. The data of this study are collected by using content analysis method. The writer find 43 data. The data analysis reveals the findings convering the formulated research questions. Firstly, the characteristics of cant produced by beggars at Sunan Giri’s graveyard Gersik. It is demostrated by 20 data are categorized as whining. The second position goes to pretending, (23 data). In addition, in Sunan Giri’s graveyard Gersik, it is found that the factors which influence the use of cant: Poverty (25%), physical disability (7%), death of parents (12%), family disintegration (5%), old age (7%), unemployment (7%).
