Abstract: The study entitled Irony in Edwin Arlington Robinson’s Poems describes and explains about the irony in three poems of Edwin Arlington Robinson. The three poems are “Richard Cory”, “The Children of the Night”, “Late Summer”. The irony is analyzed by using the theory of irony of Laurence Perrine. This topic is chosen due to the important role of the irony in conveying the meaning of the poems. Moreover, to get clear analysis, this study uses qualitative research design in analyzing the data. The writer is the key instrument and the data are described in the form of words. The data of this study are the irony of the three poems. The results of the study show that there are three types of irony that found in the three poems those are verbal irony, dramatic irony, and situational irony. The three types of irony convey the meaning of the three poems about the miserable life and the spirit of Robinson after his father dead and the fall of his family’s economy.
