Abstract: Life of Pi is one of the most interesting novel that gets reward on 2008 and becomes visual movie on 2012. It consists of the elements of literature that can be analyzed by using Barthes’ five codes. The five codes of Roland Barthes are applied in this story to analyze how Pi’s life, how he survives, the God’s help in the tragedy and other things relates to the story. Therefore, this study is intended to explained the messages in Life of Pi through the five codes of Roland Barthes. This study uses qualitative research that attempts to analyze existing information related to the way of the writer shows the symbol in the elements of literary works in this novel. The data of the present study is collected by reading the sources of data, selected based on reseach question and classified into five codes of Roland Barthes. After the Novel is analyzed, it can be concluded that Life of Pi by Yann Martel shows the five codes of Roland Barthes. It is shown the God’s power and symbol from the appearance of thunder, wind, the tiger and other forms relates to the story. Keywords: The Five Codes, God’s Power and Helps, The Three Religions
