The Swan Thieves, a novel by Elizabeth Costova. Some characters on the novel depicts abnormal behavior that caused by the depression they have. The aim of this study is to answer the questions are formulated those are: What are the symptoms of behavior abnormal on characters’ depression and what are the factors that cause characters’ abnormal behavior in the novel. Based on these problems, the objective of this study the first is to explain symptoms of behavior abnormal on depression and the second is to explain the factors that cause characters’ abnormal behavior in the novel. This research made, the qualitative is used to observe in the form of words. The result of this study shows that behavior abnormal resulted by characters’ depression. Abnormal behavior on depression those are: mood disorders, social withdrawal, sleeping disorders (insomnia and hypersomnia) and eating disorders (appetite), exhaustion most of the days, often crying, suicide, and hallucination. Many factors that cause the characters on depression as physical, environmental, economical, and cultural problems are problems that increased of risk depression. it can be concluded that: abnormal behavior in Costova The Swan Thieves is resulted from characters’ depression.
