A John Steinbecks Tortilla Flat tells about the life of Paisano. There are six characters that live in the house. They are Danny, Pilon, Pablo, Jesus Maria, Pirate, and Big Joe. They face the economical problem and live in Dannys house. Living in one house really gives the effect for the relation of those characters in reaching their ambitions. This study is qualitative research. In addition, the theory used to analyze the novel is Greimas Structuralism. This theory is used to find the universal narrative structure in the novel. It is divided into two parts, those are actantial structure and functional structure. Functional structure is subdivided into two parts, those Greimas functions and functional model. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that there are eight schemes of actantial structure that can be identified in the novel. However, there are only three schemes of actantial structure which have the receiver. Therefore, there are only three struggles that reach the last situation in functional model. Among twenty functions of functional structure, there are twelve functions that can be identified in the novel. Key Words: Greimas, Actantial structure, functional structure, Greimas functions, functional model.
