ABSTRACT Dini, Sekar, Aroma. 08.05.1.1.1.00008. Alice’s Personalities in Her Late Childhood in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass Thesis. English Study Program of Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisors: (I) Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono, M.Pd. (II) Erika Citra Sari H, S.S., M.Pd. This study uses two titles of Alice’s adventures story. They are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking- Glass. Alice is the main character of this novel. She travels a lot and so interesting to be analyzed. Since Alice is a young girl, both titles formed the personalities of a seven years old child. For a child in seven years old, it is also called as ‘the late childhood’. Therefore, this study focuses on the personalities of Alice through her dream which concerns the narrations from narrator and utterances of Alice and some characters in the novel. Hence, psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud is used as tool to analyze this novel. Because this study is qualitative, the writer is the key instrument and the data are described in the form of words. Consequently, the utterances of some characters that related to the main character’s personality are used to reveal the elaboration of Alice’s personality through her dream. Hence the data collection was done simultaneously with the data analysis. After the study has been done, it uncovers Alice’s dream with her whish- fulfillment of her imagination fantasy to satisfy her great curiosity. This study also reveals Alice’s personalities in her late childhood through her dream start to form the groups of personality. They are structure of personality and dynamic of personality. From the structure of personality it is drawn that: (1) The id is a Wonderland, (2) The ego is Alice, and (3) The superego is the advices and suggestions from other characters such as a Caterpillar, the Duchess, the Mock Turtle, and the White Knight. From the dynamic of personality, Alice’s anxiety is appeared when Alice afraid to be beheaded by the Queen of Heart. Therefore, Alice’s anxious motivates her to do something to avoid the dangerous.
