    Abstraksi

    Abstraction

Mangroves are estuarine plants that could be used bio-indicator of pollutants. The purpose of this research is to analyze and assess the concentration of heavy metal cadmium (Cd) in the roots of the mangrove species (Avicennia marina and Rhizophora mucronata) and sediment along the waters of Lumpur village, Gresik. The observation was conducted at 3 stations, with a 3-point sampling of each species in the station. Parameters measured including temperature, salinity, pH, DO, brightness, texture and concentration of Cadmium in the soil and in the root of Avicennia marina and Rhizophora mucronata. The analysis was conducted using one-way ANOVA to compare the concentration of Cadmium and regression to determine the hypothetical model and relationship of cadmium concentration in the root and sediment. The results showed that the average concentration of cadmium in the roots exceeds the quality standards stated, that is 0.001 ppm. Regression results indicate that there was a significant correlation between the concentration of cadmium in the root and sediment around the root of Avicennia marina (R2= 0.7052). However, similar significant effect could not be found on the correlation between concentration of cadmium in the root and sediment around the root of Rhizopora mucronata (R2= 0.552). The results of one-way ANOVA also explained that the average amount of concentration of cadmium in roots of Avicennia marina was higher than the root of Rhizophora mucronata, but there was no significant difference between. It was happened because the absorption both types of roots are equally affected by the absorption in the sediment.
