Abstract: This study discussed the types of syntactic errors, which mostly occur in the compositions of the students and the possible factors which cause the syntactic errors. Further, the theories about error analysis were used in analyzing the data which contain the types of errors. The focus in this study was identifying, describing, and classifying syntactic structure errors in writing. Therefore, descriptive qualitative was considered appropriate for the design of the study and the instrument is the writer himself. The result shows that 123 errors were found from 19 compositions. The kinds of syntactic structure errors that appear in the students’ writing are Error in Number (26 data), Error in Determiner (15 data), Error in Pronoun (9 data), Error in Preposition (9 data), Error in the Use of Verb (25 data), Error in Tenses (11 data), Error in Verb Pattern (11 data), Error in Agreement (10 data), Error in Question sentence (5 data), and Error in Embedded Question (2 data). The analysis also showed that most learners possibly applied the interlingual and intralingual factors so they still made some errors. Keywords: Syntactic Errors, Compositions
