  • CHRISTIAN VALUES IN SKINNER’S POEMS: “THE THREE TEMPTATIONS OF MY FATHER”, “LUCKY DAY”, AND “BLACK OLIVES” AN INTERTEXTUALITY STUDY

    ABSTRACT Mintardjo, Leonardo Danny. 10.05.111.00064. Christian Values In Skinner’s Poem: “The Three Temptations of My Father”, “Lucky Day”, And “Black Olives” an Intertextuality Study. Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisors: (I) Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono, (II) Suci Suryani, S.S., M. Pd. Jeffrey Skinner’s “The Three Temptations of My Father”, “Lucky Day”, and “Black Olives” are the kind of religious poems. The poems are influenced by the quotations of the Holy Bible that makes the poems are meaningful. This study uses intertextuality theory which is proposed by Graham Allen. The objective of this study is to elaborate the influence of the Holy Bible towards Skinner’s “The Three Temptations of My Father”, “Lucky Day”, and “Black Olives” and explain Christian values in Skinner’s “The Three Temptations of My Father”, “Lucky Day”, and “Black Olives.” This study uses qualitative research. The source of data is the three poems above and the data are the lines of the three poems. The data collected from an interview and the library research. The model of analyzing data refers to Mile and Humberman’s method. Having analyzed the data, it is found that “The Three Temptations of My Father” is influenced by The Epistle of Matthew chapter four point one until eleven. “Lucky Day” is influenced by The Epistle of Luke chapter fifteen point eleven until twenty-fourth. The last, “Black Olives” is influenced by The Epistle of Romans chapter five point one until eleven. Christian values are found in Skinner’s poems. They are vigilance, love, good attitude, respect attitude, true effort, gratitude, believe God’s power and should pray at any time in Skinner’s poems.
